Batumi is known for its surprisingly harmonious combination of history and modernity. The old city with 19th century houses, narrow cobbled streets, colorful Italian courtyards and numerous cozy restaurants contrasts sharply with the huge ultra-modern skyscrapers in the new districts.
You should definitely take a walk in both parts of Batumi - it will seem to you that you have been in two different cities. Each part of Batumi has its own unique charm, many interesting objects and sights.
What to see in Batumi
The pride of the city is the seaside Boulevard, more than 8 km long. The main attraction of Batumi is more than 130 years old, and construction is still ongoing - its length is increasing and infrastructure is improving. In the summer season, the Boulevard becomes the center of attraction for citizens and tourists. At the beginning of the boulevard, there is the Miracle Park, an alphabetical tower, a Ferris wheel, a functioning lighthouse of the 19th century, a moving statue of Ali and Nino. Batumi's singing fountains, a floating registry office are located at the central entrance, followed by a chess club, a living corner with birds, children's and sports grounds, and much more. The Boulevard ends with a beautiful modern park, which itself consists of many amazing corners.
May 6 Park - this picturesque green oasis is located on the border of the old and new city. A significant part of the park is occupied by a large lake with catamarans and boats, there is a zoo where zebras, deer, monkeys live, as well as rides and a playground. It also houses the pride of the city - the famous Batumi dolphinarium, founded in 1975. Behind the dolphinarium is the city aquarium with several dozen species of fish.
Era Square is the central square of the city, in the center of which there is a statue of Medea with the Golden Fleece rushing upwards. There is also a fountain spouting from the ground, and a unique building with an astronomical clock showing the current phases of the moon and sun, the positions of the planets, sunrise and sunset times, and other amazing things. Just one block away is another beautiful square - Teatralnaya, in the center of which is the Neptune Fountain, which is an exact copy of the 16th-century fountain in Bologna, Italy.
Theaters - art lovers will be interested in visiting one of the theaters in Batumi. Batumi has a wooden summer theater on the Old Boulevard, an opera theater on Teatralnaya Square, a puppet and young spectator theater and a large modern art center in the BNZ area.
The shallow sea is the name of the fish market where fishermen sell their catch. - Another iconic place in Batumi is the “gold exchange”. In fact, this is a typical oriental bazaar where gold and silver are sold.
